A Commitment to Sustainability

At Barelands, we believe in the importance of sustainable farming practices that respect the land and its resources—our diverse livestock work harmoniously to create a productive and regenerative farming system. By integrating livestock into our estate management, we enhance biodiversity, improve soil health, and contribute to a thriving ecosystem that benefits our agricultural endeavours and the wider environment.

Barelands Estate

At Barelands, we embrace various livestock enterprises, each playing a vital role in the sustainability and productivity of our estate. Our commitment to regenerative agriculture enhances biodiversity and supports our community and environment.

Pedigree Gloucester Old Spot Pigs

Our Pedigree Gloucester Old Spot pigs are renowned for their exceptional quality and flavour. These pigs make a significant contribution to our estate's culinary offerings, providing delicious meat for our farm-to-table experiences and corporate events. However, their role extends far beyond the plate as part of our regenerative woodland management plans. These pigs help maintain the health of our woodlands by foraging and clearing undergrowth, promoting a balanced ecosystem and encouraging the growth of native flora.

Chickens

Our free-range chickens are not only a source of high-quality eggs but also play an essential role in our estate's sustainability practices. By allowing them to roam freely, they contribute to soil health through natural fertilisation and the cycling of nutrients. Their presence enhances our farm's biodiversity, creating a more resilient agricultural system.

Sheep

We also rear a variety of sheep that contribute to our estate in multiple ways, beyond providing wool and meat, our sheep work symbiotically with our cattle. As the cattle graze at different levels of the pasture, the sheep complement this by grazing lower vegetation, ensuring efficient forage utilisation and preventing overgrowth. This complementary grazing not only supports healthy pasture management but also enhances the biodiversity of our estate by encouraging a diverse range of plant species to thrive.

Free-Range Turkeys for Christmas

In addition to our diverse livestock, we offer free-range turkeys for the Christmas season. Raised in a natural environment, our turkeys have ample space to roam, which contributes significantly to their health and well-being. This commitment to humane farming practices ensures that our holiday offerings are not only delicious but also ethically produced, providing our customers with a truly special festive dining experience.

Bees

Our six colonies of bees further exemplify our commitment to sustainability. These play a crucial role in our ecosystem, supporting the pollination of both crops and wildflowers. In addition to their ecological contributions, our bees produce honey that reflects the unique flora of our estate, offering a delicious and natural product that we proudly share with our community.
